A Brief Introduction To Pilates Workouts
Have you considered giving a Pilates Workout a try? It is a physical fitness system that centers on mind body synergy with emphasis on strength, flexibility and core stability. Pilates was founded by Joseph Pilates, a German gymnast and bodybuilder, in the 1920's. Joseph was a sickly child, so he studied various physical disciplines in order to strengthen his body. He believed that physical activity could cure diseases by using specific "corrective exercises". He believed that modern lifestyle, inefficient breathing, poor posture and lack of exercise were the reason for poor health so he developed a system of exercises using various apparatus that was designed to correct and improve these behaviors.
There are six basic principals to a pilates workout. These principals focus on control, breathing, centering, concentration, precision and efficiency of movement. These can help your mind become in-tuned with your body by emphasizing proper breathing, spinal and pelvic alignment and smooth natural movements. Concentrating on these elements helps you become aware of how your body moves which will allow you more control over it. Unlike most workouts, a pilates workout is more concerned with proper movement and quality over quantity of exercise. This means that pilates is good for rehabilitation, people who are out of shape, older people and even pregnant women with proper supervision.
If you would like to get started with a good pilates workout you might want find a good quality instructor near your home. You could start with some of the excellent beginners pilates books on the market but learning from a book means you have no one to spot you to see if you are doing the exercises properly. This workout puts a huge emphasis on form and proper movement, and it makes sense to learn the movements and techniques from an expert who can guide you in person.
